Well, here we are in Week 3.
I don’t know what it is about the number three. When I was teaching school, I remember that my best year creatively was my third year! That proved true when I was teaching Kindergarten, and again when I was assigned to teach 7th grade.
The first year was spent studying the curriculum, tweaking the class day’s schedule so that I could maximize the parts of the day when the students were most “teachable”, familiarizing myself with concepts that were difficult for the students to understand, and how I could explain those concepts in ways that would make sense to them.
The second year was more about measuring…where to go fast because the concepts made sense to the kids and where to go slower because those ideas and foundational experiences were harder to understand, but critical for moving to the next skill. I would be looking for those “new tricks to pull out of the hat!”
Then, the glorious third year happened! I could truly enjoy the kids, they enjoyed learning because their teacher was able to relax and let learning happen!
And so, that’s why I expected the third week of MKE to just fall in place…and I would relax. But that didn’t happen.
Training my brain, getting used to the different schedule, understanding new and more complex concepts, and embracing the change all take time. But I am grateful…I am learning a new way of thinking!
It is my choice to either be discouraged, or embrace this and make it happen! I am the watchwoman at the gate of untold power…my own subby! I will guard it and I will get better!

Embrace the watchman, good thoughts, good habits, it will happen
I love how you said you get to chose how you feel about the process. That is powerful!
I love how you broke down the learning you did as a teacher. Although you can’t compare 3 weeks to 3 years, imagine what it will be like in 3 months?
Three years vs. three weeks is a bit different – but I LOVE how you described those teaching years. Thanks so much!
