As I read Scroll 3, Og Mandino I am drawn to the paragraph

I was not delivered unto this world in defeat, nor does failure course in my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by the shepherd, I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep. I will hear not those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious. Let them join the sheep. The slaughterhouse of failure is not my destiny.

Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World, p.64

I figure because I am recognising the responsibility of being the ‘watchman at my gate’, I realise I am hearing my friend make comments which in the past I would either give my two cents worth or allow the comments to wash over me; ignoring them.

My responses are shifting because now I am thinking, do I get up in my mind and walk away or do I just grin and bear it.

Since reading Scroll 3 my eyes are drawn to thinking the behaviour and comments are contagious and I will lovingly let them go join the sheep. I also realise I cannot take everyone with me on this journey, which I am enjoying.

This journey is challenging, there are elements I am enjoying and other elements not so much. Some of the sits I have taken to, others I figure I need to take more time and give myself grace.

Giving no opinions and being the watchman at my gate is something I will get better at and gain more control. This becomes easier when I watch who I am talking to, hanging around with and working with. I have had what I felt was a difficult conversation with myself, as I am my watchman at my gate.

  • I enjoyed reading your blog. I like your responses to negativity. You’re right; you can’t take everyone with you on this journey. It’s up to them to be sheep or lions. I’m glad you’re enjoying your journey and are a watchman at your gate. You’re an inspiration to me.

  • Bless and release, “let them go join the sheep”, I’m doing the same and it is getting easier. I didn’t realize being the “watchman at the gate” was so important until now. I enjoyed reading your blog! Thank you for writing it.
