I enjoy watching movies as well as cycling.

I am always fascinated by how a character transitions from a life full of pain, sorrow, misery, and sadness to a life full of joy, happiness, and peace. Or a film about a character who is constantly confronted with bullies and other obstacles to being his or her true self or living the life he or she desires. They finally give in to the call and embark on their Hero’s Journey.

My passion for watching Cycling is that they know where you want to go and that there will be many obstacles to overcome. Those who overcome them will cross the finish line. I find them so Heroic in riding the most toughest mountains.

The summit of the Alto de L’Angliru (Spain) is 14.5 kilometers long. The starting point is 300 meters above sea level, and the summit is 1,560 meters. The climb begins at 10.1% and reaches a brutal 24%. Isn’t it brutal? What makes it even more brutal mentally when your legs are not up to the task is that there are marker posts along the road that indicate the gradient and distance. You can clearly see the fight that goes on between their ears, just like in a movie. With each race, they seem to be embarking on their own Hero’s Journey.

It fascinates me. I, too, long to fully understand and apply the Hero’s Journey. So I can finally cross some finish lines, write my own Hero’s Journey, and live the life I want. Write, help, and inspire people to become heroes in their own Hero’s Journey.

See being born in Suriname, a country on the northeastern coast of South America. It lies between French Guiana and Guyana. I am sharing this because it is where my journey began. My father took my sister and me to the Netherlands when we were two and a half years old. That’s where I still live.

Being in a strange country without my mother or father was not a good start for me, to say the least. And it was not a good start for many other children.

I watch movies to escape this world. I would completely forget about my surroundings and lose myself in it. That is when I realized there is a whole other world out there, and that any character can change his or her own.

Would not it be wonderful to finally be the hero of your own Hero’s Journey as well as those you care about?

  • WOW! Cycling up Alto de L’Angliru must have been a hero’s journey. I understand it is one of the hardest and most epic climbs you can ride on two wheels. Can you drive it in a car? 🙂
