MKE Blog – Commencement and Rebirth
The weather has been very overcast here in Ecuador during the past week, as it would be expected this time of year, as it is our rainy season.
Yesterday was the Commencement Ceremony for our MKE course, and I was trying to sort through my emotions as the course that we have been putting much time and effort into for the past 6 months was coming to a close. But, as the name implies, “commencement” means the beginning.
This morning, I woke up and went downstairs to feed our four furry friends, who were dutifully waiting for me to appear. Normally, I then make my own breakfast, and take a shower afterwards. This morning though, I decided to shower before eating.
As I stood in the shower with my eyes closed and the water dousing my head, I was aware of a bright light shining through my eyelids. The window in the bath is very small, only about 12 inches by 18 inches in size, and over 6 feet from the floor.
This morning, instead of being overcast, the sky was blue, with a scattering of puffy white clouds, and the sun was shinning through this small window, and the beam was directed at my head on the opposite side of the bath.
I was thinking, this must be what it was like to experience birth, coming into the world from the dark, soaking wet from head to toe, eyes closed, and seeing light come through my eyelids for the first time.
What does this mean? As it is said, life has no meaning, it just is. To me, it is just a reminder that each new day is a new beginning, because now is all there is. And today feels like when I was in high school, and I flunked the vision test when applying for my driver’s license.
I did not know that my long-distance vision was bad. I got eye glasses for the first time, and I went to a football game. I was amazed that I could read the numbers on the player’s uniforms.
Today, my vision is much clearer for who I am, and who I intend to be. I still do not have an exact destination in mind, but it is exciting to know that I am on the right road, and I am enjoying the journey.
What’s better than actually enjoying the journey of your life Bravo Michael!
Good job! El Camino es la meta – The journey is the reward. I’m so glad you are enjoying the journey!
