Today was recycling day. I was up at 7 am and started my rounds collecting refundables around 7:15 am. I knew that since it was a holiday (Family Day) I knew my neighbours would probably be late putting out their recycling. I wasn’t discouraged. After walking up and down my street and an adjacent street collecting refundables, I drove to a completely different neighbourhood where the houses were heavy concentrated.

It was tiring work walking and collecting refundables but I met a lot of friendly people during my travels. Some people told me they didn’t have any cans or bottles because family picked them up earlier or they donated them to charity. Others alerted me to refundables in their recycling bins.

On my way home I saw several of my competitors, including the man with the red minivan who two weeks ago scooped the refundables from several neighbours I normally got a lot of refundables from. The recycling trucks had already picked up the recycling on one side of the street. However, the neighbour that normally has a lot of refundables had put their reycling out late. It was loaded with refundables. There was nowhere close by to park so I parked down the hill and power walked up the hill.

I was already very tired from walking for over 2 hours carrying heavy bags of refundables, often far distances, to my car. Nothing was going to stop me from getting those refundables! My sprained ankle was throbbing, my calves ached, and my lungs were gasping for more air. I was reminded of

I labor harder than ever before and push my muscles until they cry for relief, and then I continue.

As I walked uphill I kept asking Father God to bless me and let me have those refundables.

I temporarily used my anger against the red minivan driver as motivation to reach my goal before he did. I was rewarded with two bins worth of refundables. When I was almost done filling my bags the minivan driver drove by. I smiled like a Cheshire cat since I had accomplished my goal.

I had a plan to get those refundables. I visualized it, I had motivation to achieve it, and I was determined nothing would stop me, not even my sore, tired body!

I kept thanking Father God profusely for answering my prayers as I carried my bags downhill. It may seem silly to be so grateful for refundables, but yesterday I asked Father God to “Sell a cow because he was the owner of the cows on a thousand hills, and I had no idea how I was going to pay bills.” (My Mom used to pray and ask God to sell a cow every time we had difficulty paying bills. She got the idea from Corrie Ten Boom.) Father God followed through in answering my request.

When I finally got home and unloaded my bags from my car, I celebrated my hard work with a vanilla rooibos tea with hot chocolate mixed in.

If the desire is one which requires determination, ability, talent, courage, power, or any other spiritual power, these are necessary essentials for your picture; build them in; they are the vital part of the picture; they are the feeling which combines with thought and creates the irresistible magnetic power which draws the things you require to you. They give your picture life, and life means growth, and as soon as it begins to grow, the result is practically assured.
