In terms of “The Seven Day Mental Diet” not doing very well this week. At one point, I had some larger than normal issues arise, and it threw me. I then decided to take a nice walk and continue with the Law of Substitution. Hopefully that means that I instantly substitute another uplifting thought for it.

I will decide when I am ready to restart the 7 Day Mental Diet. Even without committing to restart yet, I do find myself striving to replace negative emotions, irritations, and disappointments quickly once I recognize them. I did like the comment by Jack Koetting about a silent prayer being his go to!

I enjoy reading the Law of Giving aloud. It has made me more mindful, especially in brief interactions. I feel that I am paying more attention. Also, there are times I hear myself saying I could have done that better.

When I hear it, I am seeking to learn from the insight. I especially try to note the section on giving without expecting anything in return. That catches me now and then. It’s so reassuring to release that in a spirit of trust and gratitude for the abundant blessings I already have.

I feel like I have taken on a second job. It’s called “Mental Work”, and I can understand why Haanel says that few are willing to do it. It’s like mental weightlifting!

This is another psychological fact which is well known, but unfortunately, reading about it will not bring about any result which you may have in mind; it will not even help you to form the mental image, much less bring it into manifestation. Work is necessary – labor, hard mental labor, the kind of effort which so few are willing to put forth.”

The Master Key System, Charles Haanel, Week 7, #4

I can also relate to the following section where Haanel talks about planting seeds and then digging them up every few days to check on them versus giving them time to grow. We live in such an instant society!

This is a difficult problem for many; we are too anxious; we manifest anxiety, fear, distress; we want to do something; we want to help; we are like a child who has just planted a seed and every fifteen minutes goes and stirs up the earth to see if it is growing. Of course, under such circumstances, the seed will never germinate, and yet this is exactly what many of us do in the mental world.

We must plant the seed and leave it undisturbed. This does not mean that we are to sit down and do nothing, by no means; we will do more and better work then we have ever done before, new channels will constantly be provided, new doors will open; all that is necessary is to have an open mind, be ready to act when the time comes.

This then ties in so beautifully to Og Mandino

“As a child I was slave to my impulses; now I am slave to my habits, as are all grown men. I have surrendered my free will to the years of accumulated habits and the past
deeds of my life have already marked out a path, which threatens to imprison my future. My actions are ruled by appetite, passion, prejudice, greed, love, fear, environment, habit, and the worst of these tyrants is habit. Therefore, if I must be a slave to habit let me be a slave to good habits. My bad habits must be destroyed, and new furrows prepared for good seeds.

To wrap it up for today- it’s taken years for me to get where I was when I started this, these eight weeks of challenge are a worthwhile investment!

Till next week – do your best and share your successes with me in the comments!
