In The Greatest Salesman in the World, Scroll III, Og Mandino starts the chapter with “I will persist until I succeed.” I love how he elegantly explains this and the beautiful image one gets from it.
For the last 20 years one of my favorite sayings was “Over, under, around or through; whatever it takes, I do.” I don’t know who wrote it, as I was unsuccessful at finding the source, but this was a mantra I have lived by.
This saying is very assertive and aggressive. It always came to mind when I perceived an obstacle. Looking at this saying now makes me realize how negative it is.
With Scroll III, Mandino is looking to do the same but in a very positive way. The saying is constructive and the association positive.
I am one of the greatest influences on my children’s lives and since the time they were small, I have been using the above saying. Imagine changing it to Mandino’s saying now. My kids will ask me why this new saying? And I can explain why and the importance of being staying and positive.
And for me, this saying feels so right and so positive. I would use the old saying when I felt negative emotions. Mandino’s saying matches my new reality. What a gift!
Day and all the guides are miraculous indeed, just like you.
We are role models and “monkey see monkey do.” Really, comes down to “action speaks louder than words….”
Great insight that you are your children’s greatest influence. And what a great way to introduce Og to them.
Day, thank you! Your words are always so uplifting.
I also LOVE the wisdom in The Greatest Salesman in the World. Thank you for pointing out how it has affected you, Suzette. Gives us all an interesting perspective on that fabulous portion of the book! Thank you.
