For 16 years my best friend was Matty. A man of very few words who always said “you can learn more when you listen”. For a while I didn’t agree with this because I was of the thought the more questions I asked the more answers I received and the more I learned.
I really don’t know why he came to mind at this time in my life so I’m running with it. When I met Matty in November 2002 I just moved to Florida. Maybe that’s why I’m remembering that time because I recently moved to South Carolina.
I met him in one of the restaurants at the resort I was working at which Matty also lived at. Many evenings when I was leaving the resort to go to my home he’d be leaving the restaurant as well.
One day while walking out together, it’s now Christmas time, he stopped and handed someone a red envelope saying nothing. He did this several times and each person he stopped seemed to know what was in the envelope without looking.
Each person would hug and love on this man thanking him profusely. We’d go our separate ways to our homes and many more times I saw this same scenario play out over the next weeks.
Then one day he handed me an envelope! I was the new kid on the block. No one knew me. I’d only been there a short while and I was not making many friends very quickly at work. I couldn’t believe it when I looked in the envelope. There was $50.00 in $2.00 bills! That was his trademark I came to find out, $2.00 bills! And Matty did this year after year after year!
Through our friendship Matty came to know my Jesus. He’s been with my Lord and Savior for several years now. I thank you God for giving me such a wonderful friend who I will never forget.
Keep planting, fertilizing and watering those seeds my friends. Sometimes you get to see them grow, sometimes you get to see seeds others have sown grow and sometimes you only get to plant or maybe water them.
They are all beautiful and remember, there are no common people.
Blessings you beautiful humans. Ciao for now. I am PattiKay and I love making promises.
Patti, you are so blessed! “What things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them”. You keep planting seeds, and they keep growing!
Patti, I love this blog! After I read it, I sat back, relaxed and started thinking about how many seeds we plant every day. We don’t know what that smile, greeting, prayer, trinket, flower, etc might bring to a loved one, or a stranger. Wherever I go, I bring a gift!
Thank you for sharing!
Lovely story PattiKay. So wonderful that you had the time together with Matty.
I love that story Patti! Sounds like Matty was a good and wise friend:)
