One of our assignments was to watch a movie during our break. My first was the movie “Door to Door”. It was a true story of Bill Porter, who was challenged physically, and his dream to be a salesman like his dad.
His mom was his cheer leader! With her encouragement, belief, vision, faith and support he ventured into the work force. At his first interview, the supervisor turned Bill away. I loved how his mom was waiting outside by the car, when Bill came out and looked at his mom, he shook his head “no”.
His mom saddened for a second, looked at him then smiled ( my heart melted and tears welded up even now as I write), he knew, no words spoken, he smiled, was empowered, turned and went back in!!!
Persistence !!! Never give up!
As in the book “The Greatest Salesman in the World” by OG Mandino,
Never consider defeat…remove any words of quit, cannot, unable, impossible, hopeless, and retreat; for they are words of fools. To ignore the obstacles at my feet and keep my eyes on the goals above my head, for I know that where dry desert ends, green grass grows. I persist until I succeed. Og Mandino
And so Bill did!! He got the job!!
Even when he began his door to door sales, his mom reminded him “patience” each time he got into the car disappointed or felt discouraged.
I loved the part when Bill sat down on a park bench and opened his lunch bag to see the words ‘Patience and Persistence” written on each side of his sandwich! It was all he needed to continue the day.
Bill Porter was an inspiration to all he met. His impact on his route with his customers and those who declined was everlasting. He truly succeeded. As in the book,
The prizes of life are at the end of the journey, not near the beginning; and it is not given to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach my goal. Failure I may still encounter at the thousandth step, yet success hides behind the next bend in the road. Never do I know how close it lies unless I turn the corner. Og Mandino
He persisted and with patience traveled that road to achieve that success to become the “Salesman of the Year” to the surprise of many.
With the MasterKey experience, the support of my mastermind partners and my loving husband, I embark on this journey.
Gisele, I really like your blog! Since reading it, I’ve decided I’ll have to watch “door to door” as well 🙂
Thank you for the share!
Well done, Giselle. This movie is a great example of persistence!
