MKE Week 6 – Odd Sit Experience

minutes remaining

Last night as I was doing my evening sit, I had a weird experience. As I was calming my body down and clearing my mind, I observed that I was reminding myself to breath deeply, and directed myself on the duration of my breaths.

I started questioning myself as to why I was giving myself directions on how to breathe. I reasoned that it was Subby’s job to that. After, Subby does it all day and all night without me having to think about it, so why not now?

It was then that I realized that Subby does need direction if I am doing something different than I normally do. After all, isn’t that the reason that I am participating in MKE?

It reminded me of when I was going through SCUBA certification many years ago, and first put my head under water with the SCUBA equipment on, and at first, I could not breathe, not because there was a malfunction of the equipment.

My mind was telling me, “You can’t breathe! You are under Water!” It was just trying to protect me. This all may sound kind of trivial, but I thought it was worth noting.

Meet Michael Bordyn

I’ve always loved the outdoors and exploring. Growing up in Florida, I earned a degree in forestry from the University of Florida, and worked in that profession for 15 years. Subsequent forays in sales and customer service drew me into a desire to help others. My wife, Millie and I have been married for 21 years, and spent several years living in western North Carolina, and upstate New York. A brief visit to South America inspired us to move to Ecuador, where we have been living in a completely different environment for the last year and a half.
Still exploring…….

  • Thank you Scott. Thought I was just being weird, but I guess I’m just opening new doors.

  • Awesome observation, Michael! You’re retraining Subby and sometimes it doesn’t know how to handle that.

  • That is a very cool observation. And being the observer is very cool as well – good for you, Michael!
