A typical day as a bus driver in a city I meet around 500 people.

Can I bring a gift to everyone? Normally our eyes meet 2-3 seconds only.

First days was a challenge but with practice I improved.

The gift is a smile and maybe a thought when arriving at a bus stop.

If the first person that boarding take note of the smile, then almost everyone that boards after are receptive and make my day so much better since I receive many smiles back. A smile and a thought can be very contagious.

When arriving in the break room and meeting colleagues, I’m contagious and spreading happiness with compliments.

It might seem small, but it proves to me that “Give more Receive more” actually work.

  • I enjoyed reading how smiling to the people on your bus improves your mood and others, too and that many people smile back at you. What a great gift! I know when I ride the bus, even if I’m at the back of the bus, when I’m about to exit the bus I tell the bus driver, “Thank you driver!” I know bus drivers work hard, so thank you for your hard work!

  • Fabulous Bernhard! A smile and a kind thought are perfect gifts. “A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give.”
