Kindness. You would think that kindness was the norm these days, but unfortunately it’s not. Seems like when I was growing up, everyone was generally kind and trustworthy.
For my job, I must make cold calls. Well, they are more like warm calls because people have put their info onto the internet asking for help. Unfortunately, they don’t realize that they will immediately start getting a bunch of calls from telemarketers in a call center trying to push their product them.
Sometimes, by the time I call them, they have already received dozens of calls and are frustrated. They think I am another one of those telemarketers….when in actuality, I am the best one to help them. I am an advisor, not a salesperson. I can truly help them. However, they don’t know that.
Many times I will begin speaking with them, and as soon as they realize why I am calling, they hang up. We have exchanged pleasantries, and I have been kind, there is no reason for a rude hang up. They could simply say, “Thank you, but I don’t need help” or something of that nature. Actually, most of the time, they still need help, but they are afraid I might “sell” them something.
However, my point here is…..what happened to the general idea of being kind? When did hanging up on someone mid-sentence become okay and not considered rude?
I was very excited when this week began. Even though I had originally thought that kindness was not the norm anymore…..I saw it everywhere! I saw it, because I was looking. I when you look, you see.
So many acts of kindness done and observed this week. I never want to stop seeing the kindness that is out there! It brought so much joy to my heart.
Juli, when I really starting observing, looking for it, and sharing it, kindness started pouring in. Now I see it everywhere! This week, the attribute I’m focusing on is courage. I’m finding it all over the place, but what’s truly remarkable is, that I’m finding kindness right along side of courage.
Wonderful way to be the observer.
It is great when you are the observer. You definitely see what others do not. Thank you for sharing.
Like this Juli when you look, you see. So true.
