We have all heard of the word called habit. Such a powerful word and mostly used in a positive way. Many articles are written about how the wealthy or successful people have great habits.
These great habits help them to achieve outcomes that many others can only dream of. These written about habits are inspiring but these are not the only habits which drive us. We also have negative habits which drive us and these behaviours are discussed with varying advice.
We are told how hard it is to break these habits and how much work it will take. What if we can replace these negative habits with positive ones? And that this process is not as hard as you think it is? Is that worth your time? Is a different future worth your time? Will you invest in yourself and make the effort?
“In truth, the only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the differences of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which preceedeth all others is – I will form good habits and become their slave.”
Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World, Scroll 1
I was adhering to the lessons taught in week 1 and at times slightly off track but then quickly back on with the homework, focus and habits. This continued until I had a conversation with my husband and then I went from 0 to 100 in seconds.
I become angry when he wouldn’t do what I asked. Hmm, a notice. So, I reminded myself to let it go and I looked at this as a lesson. This feeling and behaviour is a pattern and holding on to this emotion is my choice. So, I quickly reminded myself to let it go and go on to the next best feeling thought.
Reading Og reminds me that these bad habits are imprisoning my future. My focus now is on the future I want, the time is worth it to put in the effort, make different choices and focus on myself. What will you do?
Great insight Suzette. Noticing our thoughts and realizing that we have the ability as to how we respond. Way to go!
Suzette, do you remember “R2A2”, Recognize, Realize, Assimilate, & Apply? You are doing R2A2 as you look back at this experience with your husband. Way to go! Keep going forward! Thank you for your authentic sharing!
Amazing insight, Suzette. Letting go can be super hard, but you’re already beginning to notice when you can and developing that habit. Awesome!!
