Oxford defines stretching as “be made or be capable of being made longer or wider without tearing or breaking.” I feel that so hard in the center of my being this week.
I’ve stretched myself, and even though it initially felt like I stretched myself too thin… after some reflection I realize that it’s just me in a period of adjustment. And not only is that ok, but it’s beautiful. I’m building a new ritual, a new muscle.. Good things take time.
I made little boxes to tick off on a desk calendar for each of the daily tasks because I like to see the agenda, I’m more likely to do the things if I see an empty box next to it, waiting for a checkmark or an X to be placed in it.
One day I was so tired I kept putting off my nightly reading that eventually it didn’t get done. NOTED, don’t do that again, stay on track, it’s simple and if you stick to it, it will become easy…
“For when an act becomes easy through constant repetition, it becomes a pleasure to perform it and if it is a pleasure to perform it is a man’s nature to perform it often.”
Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World, Scroll 1
There were a few other daily check marks I’ve missed throughout the last week (never a whole day) and it was a learning experience. These (losses/strikethrough) lessons are so important. It shows me where I’m more likely to fall short and when it’s time to apply extra discipline. DO IT NOW! I get 8 (out of 10) for effort.
There are times when you stumble, there are times you feel lost…
…and to get where you’re going these are well worth the cost.
It’s great to see how you’re pushing yourself to grow and develop new habits. It’s important to remember that growth often requires discomfort and stretching beyond our comfort zones. However, it’s also important to take time to rest and recover when needed. Keep up the good work with your daily tasks and remember to be kind to yourself.
Great post this week. I like the analogies you used. Very well said.
Remember the reward is always greater than the sacrifice to get there.
indeed Day! i’m glad you enjoyed. btw, i love your name 🙂
What a great idea! And remember to celebrate the wins, at the same time as making plans to change those times you don’t make a check-mark:)
Stretching, growing, and managing it on your own. What a great share, Anna, and how simply you’ve pulled it together. No doubt, this is going to lead to amazing things on the other side!
